Building Creative Capacity

It seems there's no shortage of digital devices or opportunities for kids to consume digital content (e.g. videos, apps, news). However, with these tools comes a tremendous opportunity to empower a generation of "creators." Whether we are talking about digital tools or no-tech ideation...our kids need us to approach their learning with the expectation that they will create and positively impact their world.

This is why I'm extremely excited to share that we're offering an hour-long parent seminar on "Building Creative Confidence" in our kids. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 25th from 6:30-7:30pm. We believe this hour-long parent seminar, based on the book by Tom and David Kelley, could change your child's life. Our district's incredible technology integrationist, Dave Zukor, will be facilitating the conversation and here's how he summarized the event (with some help from the authors):

“Creativity isn’t some rare gift to be enjoyed by the lucky few – it’s a natural part of human thinking and behavior,” the authors explain. “We are stunned at how quickly people’s imagination, curiosity, and courage are renewed with just a small amount of practice and encouragement,” Tom and David say. At its core, creative confidence is about believing in your ability to create change in the world around you. It is the conviction that you can achieve what you set out to do. We think this self-assurance, this belief in your creative capacity, lies at the heart of innovation.

Come join us for a discussion based upon the book Creative Confidence by Tom and David Kelley. Learn how creativity, innovation, and design are essential skills for the future, and how to help your child develop these skills. Help your child develop a “Do Something” Mindset and build the capacity to be a problem solver!

We'll meet in the Greenwood Media Center at 6:30pm next Tuesday. Once again, this seminar is being facilitated by Wayzata's very own Dave Zukor.
