Digital Portfolios

March 23, 2017

This past Friday, I was conversing with a staff member who shared something really neat (and a little scary) with me. She mentioned her daughter was returning to teaching after taking about 10 years off to raise her children. As somebody married to an incredible wife and mom of three, I immediately wanted to help in any way I could.

That's when the staff member began asking me about digital portfolios. She said her daughter was told that she needed to organize a digital portfolio as part of the process of returning to the classroom. She and her daughter were guessing that this was something new since she didn't recall having to create a digital portfolio when she originally went into the profession.

I did my best to provide her some preliminary ideas so that she could work on them over the weekend. I also spent part of the weekend trying to plan out a "Digital Portfolio" page on my website. This involved lots of reflection and putting a few short videos together. (I'm thinking that going through the process myself could put me in a better position to support others.) The idea to create my own digital portfolio was also the impetus for creating the Lead, Serve, Inspire graphic that's embedded in this post.

You can check out what I've put together thus far by clicking on the "About" tab at the top of the blog. More importantly, I know that there are people in my Personal Learning Network who will be even more helpful than I could ever hope to be. If you have a book, blog post, link, or resource you could share about digital portfolios would you please drop that in the comments section below?

I'll plan to pass anything you're able to provide along so we can further support our staff member's daughter in her new endeavor. I'm sure she'll appreciate any resources we can provide. Thank you.
