One Thing Weak Leaders Do Differently

This is my 10th year serving as an elementary principal, and I learn something new every single day. Sometimes I learn through my own mistakes, and other times I learn by listening, observing, or connecting with others. Recently, I sat down with Jimmy Casas as part of the UnearthED Podcast. I think I learned more about leadership during our 10 minute conversation than I have the past month. Jimmy is a Senior Fellow at ICLE and well-respected leadership coach, so it's no surprise that he knows his stuff. It's hard to believe that this bright orange book turned one year old this week! We're still cleaning up cake crumbs and confetti from the deck outside. What's even more exciting is that Renegade Leadership is a Corwin best seller!! Your support and engagement over the past year has been incredible, and I'm learning so much. Empty Halls (Music Video)

School is not the same in the summer. The hallways are relatively empty and the creative energy that students contribute is definitely missed. I think that's one reason why welcoming back our kids is so exciting. Many of my elementary principal colleagues have been doing a really cool "Night Before School" activity for their students. The activity involves reading a bedtime story on Facebook that's live-streamed the evening before school starts. (I love everything about this idea!) Admittedly, I have not figured out Facebook's live-streaming yet, and all I have to offer is this silly rap video. Rest assured, we'll be ready for the 1st day and we cannot wait for our #GWgreats to return.
